Watching fashion movies is the quickest way for you to pick up an edgy style, no doubt! Love how Sienna Miller portraying the 60s IT girl Edie Sedgwick in the movie “Factory Girl”, big loop earrings, from-head-to-toe leopard printed outfits, the provocative yet seductive winged eyeliners, pairing with the just-covering-the-butt skirt, it just gave you an idea how MOD look took over the swinging 60s, it’s the style any fashion designers would like to revisit and reinterpret every once in a while! So basically it’s the style you simply can’t avoid!

When talking about the old styles, “Belle de Jour” starring the stunning French actress Catherine Deneuve was definitely a hit. I am sure we are all impressed with the classic looks Deneuve gave on screen, this film indeed marked the beginning of the long term relationship between Deneuve and Yves Saint Laurent. Laurent, who was responsible for Deneuve’s image back then actually convinced her not to wear mini-skirts, his vision is later proven right, the elegant and sophisticated style of Deneuve survives through generations.

“The Devil Wears Prada” has given all of us a sneak peek to the behind the scene of the glamourous fashion world. Have you ever dreamt of being one of the fashion insiders? You may think that’s easy, but there’s so much more than attending fashion shows, hanging out with celebrities and dressing up in fancy clothes…The movie based on the novel written by Lauren Weisberger whom was once worked as assistant to the powerful US Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, revealing the hardship and the cost it takes to be on top of the fashion industry. Especially in such a digital world when there is only real time reporting, editors’ life can only be harder and harder. For those who always has fancy thoughts about the industry, let’s replace your wild imagination with the cruel facts that they can never be walking in heels running show after show with bare hands, digital camera, iPhone and the always-packed-schedule can just keep your hands full.

Okay! I admit when talking about shopping, I am totally pathological. Whenever I think my compulsive buying disorder problem is getting serious, I will go and see the movie “Confessions of a shopaholic”, to stop myself from going any further. I do actually get scared of seeing the piling up credit card bills and my almost-explode wardrobe turning into a real mess. Everytime I think I am going to lose control I will just convince myself to face the reality that I can never be Carrie Bradshaw and owning a walk-in-closet can only be a dream. Let’s be realistic that we can never have enough to wear if we are always after fashion, while style is just another thing.

In the 90s big hit teen movie “Clueless”, Alicia Silverstone’s character Cher Horowitz has 60-plus costume changes, the looks in the movie remind us of those iconic mid-90s fashion clichés: clogs, spaghetti-strap vests over white T-shirts, knee-socks, emo checked shirts… you NAME it. They might be too awful to be remembered, but some of the trends still work. Well, at least the chokers and backpacks are totally on-trend. Cher Horowitz just like any other fashion icons did inspire me a lot the power of fashion and the rules of playing with it.
